ENS'97

May 12 - 17, 1997, Debrecen, Hungary

THE SYMPOSIUM

This is the second announcement for the International Symposium on Exotic Nuclear Shapes to be held in Debrecen at the headquarters of the Debrecen Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Bolyai u. 27-31.). The symposium will be opened at 10.00 on Monday, May 12, 1997 and closed on Saturday 13.00, May 17. The morning sessions usually begin at 9.00, the evening ones at 16.00. Thursday afternoon will be left for a fascinating excursion to Hortobágy, the `Magyar Puszta' near Debrecen.

OUTLINE OF THE PROGRAM

The symposium will include 5 main topics. To each topic a session is devoted, and the topic is covered by 4-6 invited speakers in review talks in the mornings. The other contributions will be presented as selected contributed talks in the evening sessions and in the form of posters. Contributed talks will be selected on the basis of submitted abstracts.

ABSTRACTS

Contributors to the symposium are requested to submit a one-page abstract to the secretariat not later than February 20, 1997. Preferred format is standard LaTeX or PostScript. Example file can be downloaded from the WWW homepage of the symposium. The book of abstracts will be distributed to the participants at the time of registration. Abstracts received by the organizers in LaTeX or in PostScript format will be made available for reading by WWW in the symposium home page before the conference.

PROCEEDINGS

The invited papers, oral and poster contributions, accepted for presentation by the Programme Committee, will be published in the journal Heavy Ion Physics. A maximum of 12, 4 and 2 pages will be allocated to the authors of the invited talks, contributed talks and posters, respectively. Authors are requested to send their manuscripts to the secretariat before May 17, 1997 in LaTeX format. An example file with instructions as well as the necessary style files can be downloaded from the WWW homepage of the symposium. Only one contribution from each of the registered participants will be published.

PARTICIPATION

Participants are requested to fill in the enclosed registration form and return it to the ENS'97 secretariat not later than March 21, 1997. The number of persons, who have expressed their interest to participate, has reached the planned size of the symposium. Nevertheless, in a limited number we can still accept new applicants, who can download application forms from the WWW homepage of the symposium.

The registration fee is 400 DEM when paid by March 21, 1997 or 450 DEM if paid after this date. (At present 400 DEM corresponds to ~40000 Hungarian Forints (HUF). HUF is regularly devaluated by 1.2 % per month.)The registration fee covers the admission to sessions, the program & abstract booklets, the reception, the excursion, the conference dinner, the refreshments at breaks and the conference proceedings. The registration fee for accompanying persons is 100 DEM which covers the reception, the excursion and the conference dinner.

A limited fund is available for students or young scientists to cover their expenses partially. Application should indicate the amount & the type of requested support. It should be accompanied by a supporting letter from the supervisor, explaining the activity of the applicant.

ACCOMMODATION

Participants can request hotel bookings in Aranybika Hotel by filling in the appropriate part of the enclosed registration form. Double rooms are available for single or double occupancy in different categories. The categories and the prices of rooms are listed in the registration form. All have private bathrooms and, except the cheapest ones, TV and minibar. Breakfast, lunch as well as free entrance to the sauna, the gym and the casino of the hotel are included in the price.

In each category there are limited number of rooms available. Room reservations will be arranged by the conference secretariat on a first-come, first-served basis. For your information a list containing the number of available rooms will be updated regularly in the WWW homepage of the symposium. Participants are requested to make their selection on the basis of this list. To help the organizers in keeping this list up-to-date, please send also a fax copy of the signed registration form to the ENS'97 secretariat.

Hotel reservation fees must be received by the secretariat before March 21, 1997. Unfortunately, the organizers cannot guarantee hotel reservation for participants whose payment is not received before this deadline.

Payment in advance can be made by: Payment at registration can be made by: Participants are requested to indicate the preferred type of payment in the registration form. In case of bank transfer, please do not forget to indicate `ENS'97' and the participant's name on the remmittance and enclose a bank copy of it to the registration form. Please note that bank charges should be paid by the participants.

CANCELLATION

Cancellations must be received by mail or by fax. All refunds will be made following the symposium. Please take into account that only the registration fee will be refunded to participants whose request for cancellation is received after April 24, 1997. An administration fee of 50 DEM will be deducted from all refunds.

THIRD NOTICE

In the third notice further information will be given on the program of the ENS'97, on travelling to Debrecen from Budapest (230 km), etc. It will be mailed to the participants in March, 1997.
